Track Name: Land Of My Baby
Over there, over yonder...you see that big gray building?
And the storm on its way, like cats in the sky?
Over there, by the water, is the land of my baby,
and the same afternoon passes by.

In the land of my baby, he could be shaking and laughing.
Or falling asleep, dreaming of the sun on the sea.
In the land of my baby, he works hard, he makes jokes.
And lord knows if my baby misses me.

In the land of my baby, it's not just him who lives there,
but a whole mess of folks, who don't know from me.
Someone good, someone evil, could steal his heart from me,
and I wouldn't be there to see.

In the land of my baby, he could be shaking and crying.
Or taking a break, tapping out a tune on his knee.
In the land of my baby, he works hard, he has problems.
And lord knows if my baby misses me.

Can't let my mind wander; I'll see him at eight.
Is my baby my bread and butter, or the icing on the cake?

Over there where those trees are, and the sky's softly breathing,
and the sunset lays down on the bed in the sky...
Over there, by the water, is the land of my baby,
and the same cold twilight passes by.

In the land of my baby, he could be shaking and crying.
Or falling asleep, dreaming of the sun on the sea.
In the land of my baby, he works hard, he has problems.
And sometimes, I know my baby misses me.
Track Name: Radio Way
Take a drive with me on a Saturday
and I will explain to you
all the things that I wanted to.

My dear, appear here in this park with me.
The sun'll split us both in half, and we'll have to come clean.
And then the shade takes over: It's like 1983.
You'll see...you'll see my pedigree.

My dear, I'll take you in my car today
up into the hills around to Radio Way.
I'll show you where the music grows in bushes by day,
the lots where I found it at night.

Sit in my mother's car, and tell your story:
Here's the part where I wake up in New York.
Too good to get to, or not meant to be?
Unless I see it on T.V....here's the part that I make up.

My dear, good morning, welcome to my room.
The earth shakes with precious love and green-gray gloom.
Sweet nothings to the ceiling...my heart's a balloon.
How long will it stay up there?

I can't believe you came here.
I'm always the same here.
I'll take you on the freeway,
it's the dark and free way.
Track Name: Be A Man
I wished on a lot of stars, bring me a love.
But I don't think I made myself clear enough.
What to do with what I got? Oh, I trembled and cried.
Everyone says that I don't have a choice.
Even I have that tone in my voice.
You've told your first and last lie; here's what I'm going to do.

I'll be a man. I will never call you back. I will run away from you
because I'm scared.
I'll be a man. I will shut my ears to you.
I will do the things you do before you do 'em.

Much further back was someone I forgot
Like a bus that on purpose just misses a stop
So sweet and right I decided that something was wrong
Then on a day that was misty with rain,
I called from a desk that was covered with pain
You didn't get the chance, but why shouldn't you be the same?

I was a man. I just never called you back. I just run away from you
'cause I was scared.
I was a man. I just shut my ears to you.
Thought I'd do the things you do before you do 'em.

They're always cursed for turning around
They say they're turning on us
At least they're on some solid ground.
They pick a sidewalk and drive on down.

So I'll be a man. I will never call you back. I will run away from you
because I'm scared.
I'll be a man. I will shut my ears to you.
I will do the things you do before you do 'em.

I'll be a man. I will never call you back.
I will run away from love because I'm scared.
Track Name: Insane Moon
There was just an insane moon, hanging so low in the sky.
I'd been trying to say something; all year I'd tried and tried.
But when I saw the moon, bigger than the street,
I knew that things had changed, at least.

This wasn't the same moon. It was looking like an eye.
I could practically touch it, though it was many worlds wide.
It was real and unreal, at the same time.
It was yours, and it was also mine.

Ooh, it kind of opened up everything.
And now, I'm at the precipice of getting free.
And just like that moon, I'm not afraid to be
so near the earth and you.

I was all by myself then, going out to get some bread.
But if someone had been there, this is what I would have said:
"Have you ever seen a moon, such a crazy shade of gold?
I feel young, and I feel also old."

Moon, moon, never go away.
Open up my lips every day, every day.

I was all by myself then, going out to clear my head.
But if someone had been there, this is what I would have said:
"Have you ever seen a moon, such a crazy shade of gold?
I feel young, I feel alive I feel old."
Track Name: Chicken Shop
There's a beautiful girl all alone in the chicken shop.
I don't feel so bad now.
She's got my bag, she's got my book. But the boys take a second look.
Well, I wonder if she's got the trouble that I do.
There are things that she is wistful about; she's got no right.
No, it won't happen overnight.

What will I do with all this love? Well, I just got good for it.
I'm walking around and I come up empty.
I'm thinking about you, it makes me happy.
I don't want to wait, no, I don't want to wait another minute in it.

There's a beautiful boy all alone in the chicken shop,
and he hears that song again. "I'm fascinated by your love."
If you want him it won't take much.
Well, the irony is that he doesn't like dancing, 'cause he keeps something inside.
But watch him slightly move his hips, as he pays for potato chips.

What will I do with all this love? Well, I just got good for it.
I'm walking around and I come up empty.
I'm thinking about you, it makes me happy.
I don't want to wait, no, I don't want to wait another minute in it.

Maybe you can understand now why we get so tired for a reason.
Every night, we don't want to leave because there's a chance that we might see them.
Look at all the streets that we wander, compared to the days they are nice and even.
Either we'll be out there forever or never.

It's a beautiful night somewhere near Pasadena. Monrovia, I think.
That's where Melissa met that guy, she was 16, or something like.
Well, it's not like it's all of our lives, but at the very least, it's the background color.
She said she fell in love with him. As for me I forgot to wonder when...

What will I do with all this love? Well, I just got good for it.
I'm walking around and I come up empty.
I'm thinking about you, it makes me happy.
I don't want to wait, no, I don't want to wait another minute in it.
There's a beautiful boy all alone in the the chicken shop.
Track Name: The Song With The Descending Tune
I probably shouldn't talk to you. I want to talk to you so bad
that I keep interrupting you. But you will probably never get mad.
Nobody's sweeter. I think I have to hang up on you now.

First you touch your hair and smile. Then I touch my chin and frown.
You actually look ordinary! I can't believe it's almost summer.
We don't need our jackets. And I have never been here like now.

The light in the elevator shocks me. And it's hot, too hot,
not like outside, with the breeze and you.

The song with the descending tune is coming down to meet the little song
with the ascending tune, and when they meet there's sure to be
a great big explosion, and that is when you'll say that you love me.
That is when you'll say that you love me.
That is when you'll say that you love me.
Track Name: Big Gray Cloud
My love's not like, it is a big gray cloud
Hanging low and mean over you.
Well, it will drench you turn you inside out,
like it's never rained before; oh, it barely knows what to do.

My love will miss the point; leave you cold and wet, but not enough
to let anything grow, or help you to forget.

My love's not like, it is a big gray cloud.
It fills the world up without making a sound.
And with your nose against the glass you're counting down.
How will you ever know if you should be even around?

My love will come and want to know what it can take.
It'll ask everything of you, everything you hate.
It'll hang around you like a great big paperweight,
partly wrong and partly true.

You don't know what restless is, till you see me wait for you to move.
Just look up, and you're gone.
I've got so much to lose.

Oh, my love's not like, it is a big gray cloud.
If you know what's good, you'll get out.
I know in time that it will just dissolve,
but it's hanging out for now.
I don't feel like moving at all.
Track Name: That Did It
If you ask what did it, I'd have to say that afternoon in May.
The sun was setting, I walked alone into the dying day.
And even as I found what had inspired me to come,
I worried about love and swore to try and get me some.

Maybe that's what did it. I came back and I was right about the change.
We hooked up, I slowed down. I was happy but I still felt kind of strange.
Sometimes it's a joy, sometimes a pebble in my shoe.
It's gonna be a hard day and there's nothing I can do.

That did it, that did it.
Love's under my pillow now.
I fall a little, go back to sleep and it's still there.

If you ask what did it, I'd also say the time that I was scared.
You were right, that's nothing, but my eyes are wide and now I know what's there.
I'm writing you a letter from my castle in the rain.
Water, water everywhere and nothing to explain.

That did it, that did it.
Love's under my pillow now.
I read a little, go back to sleep and it's still there.
No matter what happens, if I go away from you,
that did it, that did it, there's nothing I can do.

Deep darkness pressing on me; one second later I'm all covered in light,
covered in life.

If you ask what did it, I'd have to say I just ran out of space.
"I love you, I love you," I wrote up and down the margin of this place.
Track Name: I Like This Town
I like this town when there's people around
Like an old bamboozled friend who keeps the tension down.
Or a girl and her daddy, they laugh outside their car.
Pretty late at night when you might be scared from walking far.

I like this town, it can lock me down,
away from the scenes that used to be.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
could be the place that sets me free.

Airplanes landing, cars rushing by,
TV playing low, socks and jeans are tumbling dry.
Sometimes I crack up, sometimes I cry.
But here the branches fan like lace across the clear blue sky.

I like this town, it can lock me down,
away from the troubles of the week.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
and wrap its arms around my knees.

Seagull inland, lord knows that she is lost.
All the matters is she finds true love at any cost.
Dip in the fountain, then down Mechanic Street.
Soon she'll touch the ground, but her wings will not miss a beat.

I like this town, it can lock me down,
Yeah, there are things I'll never see.
I like this town, it can lock me down,
And that's just what happened to me.
Track Name: 13th Street
Walking down 13th Street in the rain, 1:00 a.m.
Smells like old records.
Even though I know I'm only half to blame
Just for the record: I'd like to say I'm sorry.
I'd like to think you're sorry.

And I'm wondering if I'm ever gonna stop
feeling bad about this. Nothing goes away,
but nothing stays and it's always you I miss.

Remembering the first time that I came to your house,
I looked through your records.
That was how I used to think you found who you loved:
you looked through his records.
And now I smell the ocean. I think of things much bigger

And I'm wondering if I'm ever gonna stop
feeling bad about this. Nothing goes away,
but nothing stays and it's always you I miss.

My jeans are sticking to me and the wind's kicking up.
I lost my umbrella. I'm almost at my block and I imagine my bed.
Oh, how I want to be there!
But I don't want to be there.
Things'll just start all over.
